Salary range c. £19K - £24K, depending on skills and experience
 
Seafish is a UK public body which delivers a broad range of services and projects to the seafood industry and governments. The Kingfisher Information department of Seafish is tasked with improving ‘Safety at Sea’ for fishermen, with the main element of this being the mapping of offshore industry structures, which may pose a hazard to fishing.
 
This is an opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to contribute to the offshore mapping and safety awareness products and services that the Kingfisher Information department provide. The post requires geographical data handling and mapping skills, as well as frequent liaison with the fishing and offshore industries.
 
This exciting opportunity will develop industry-specific expertise and build on the applicants ability  to deliver geographical data for a defined and highly respected cause. You will work closely with other members of the Kingfisher department, working as a team to meet the requirements of various projects.
 
The post is based in our Grimsby office. Travel throughout the UK and Europe may be required. A driving licence is also required.
 
The Candidate
  • Educated to degree level (preferably in a geography based subject), with a post graduate qualification desirable.
  • 3 years + practical experience in the use of GIS / AutoCAD software in map production.
  • Experience of geographical data handling and database management.
  • Outstanding computer literacy, use of commonly used office software packages for presentations and report writing.
  • Experience of the fishing industry and fishermen’s charting systems would be advantageous.
  • Experience of dealing with clients and customers, determining their needs and proposing suitable solutions in a professional manner.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing with industry personnel.
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines both individually and as part of a team.
