The School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences wishes to appoint a Geospatial Technologies Technician, to join a team of three other professional support staff to extend the School’s existing teaching and research in this important area. The main responsibilities of the post are to:
 
  • Support and develop the teaching of ESRI ArcGIS and other geospatial techniques, on a variety of platforms, including mobile technologies
  • Respond to individual enquiries from staff and students, providing help and advice across the School on geospatial data and technologies
  • Facilitate the use and loan of resources
  • Analyse geospatial data and produce outputs, including maps, for publications related to staff research
  • Engage in fieldwork when required
 
You should hold a good first degree or equivalent with a strong GIS component and, ideally, experience using ESRI ArcGIS. Familiarity with other geospatial technologies such as GPS/mobile device mapping, remote sensing image analysis and map design and production are desirable. You should have excellent verbal and communication skills, be able to work using your own initiative, set and work effectively to deadlines and be a creative thinker, able to bring your own ideas and suggestions to the workplace. As part of a team you will be comfortable working with and exchanging ideas amongst colleagues.
 
This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.
