Job Title: Senior Geographic Information Analyst - Met Police - London
Description
Deliver the security technologies for London 2012
Senior Geographic Information Analyst

£46,524 plus £3,379 location allowance
London, SE11

The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be the biggest sporting event in UK history. Arguably, it will also be the biggest security challenge the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) will ever face, with the safety of thousands of competitors, officials and spectators being of paramount importance.

This is an exciting opportunity to manage the delivery of security technologies for this uniquely prestigious event in conjunction with the Olympic Security Directorate (OSD). Our departments have the feel of a small business. This means you can expect to be involved in the full development lifecycle and see your ideas become reality, whilst enjoying all the benefits of working for one of London’s largest employers.

You’ll provide detailed technological support to UK Olympic police forces to facilitate the successful commissioning and interfacing of common web-mapping services for sharing geographic information. As well as defining project and programme requirements to exploit business change opportunities, your role will involve providing consultancy services to the MPS. In-depth knowledge of GIS systems and software, general mapping services, demographic and spatial analysis, remote sensing and cartography is essential to be successful in this role, as is a good knowledge of GIS software and familiarity with relational database design.

We are also looking for substantial experience in advanced electronic communications or electronic security, or another relevant engineering or scientific field. Excellent knowledge and experience of applying structured project management approaches such as PRINCE 2 will be essential and a degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject or Chartered status from a recognised professional body would be a bonus.

In return, we offer a range of benefits that includes choice of pension scheme, interest-free season ticket loan, generous holidays and access to an active sports and social club.

To apply please download a role specific information pack and application form. If you have any queries, please contact our recruitment team at DOI.Recruitment@met.police.uk  quoting job ref DOI/SPD/417.

Completed applications must be returned by 29 January 2010.
